MSDN Subscription Expiring

30 May 2005 No Comment

My MSDN subscription expires tomorrow. This sucks as I’ll no longer have access to all those wonderful downloads. If anyone would like to sponsor me, I’d really love to hear from you.

I came across two interesting sites over the weekend: AMD Edge and The SLI Zone. The AMD site has some excellent content describing the inner workings of a processer, including a walkthrough of how an instruction is executed.

The nVidia site (SLI Zone) has some interesting material around the capabilities of their SLI architecture. SLI basically lets your machine use 2 graphics cards (although Gigabyte have announced they’ll soon support 4) in parallel basically splitting the rendering work between the two. It’s not quite all it’s cracked up to be yet as the software has to support this but results do look promising.

If you’re interested in building an SLI machine (as I am) it’s worth a look to see which of the components are actually certified by nVidia.

Make sure you checkout the Rig of the Month, an SLI box with dual Opterons, 16GB RAM and 1.6TB of storage in a home PC. Ridiculous.

Congratulations to Jeff Barr and the team over at Amazon on their recent Codie Award win. For those that don’t know, the SIAA holds The Codies every year and competition is fairly stiff.

The AWS (Amazon Web Services) won the category of “Best Web Service” and it’s well deserved.

Seems the tech community is so much stronger over on the west coast. Of course I shouldn’t find that strange but can’t help feeling left out. The Tri-State needs an awards show!

June should be an exciting month, I feel a bout of introspection coming on.
